Proctor Academy
Proctor Academy and its History Department seek a passionate and experienced history or social science teacher to fill a full-time (three course) position beginning in August 2026. This position entails teaching sections of our year-long 9th grade (world history) core curriculum as well as one or more of our upper and honors-level electives.
Based in Andover, New Hampshire, Proctor Academy serves as an independent boarding and day school for approximately 385 students in grades 9-12. Proctor draws inspiration from its motto: “Live to Learn, Learn to Live,” developing students and faculty whose lives demonstrate honesty, compassion, respect, and responsibility. Proctor provides a challenging college preparatory curriculum augmented by five signature, term-long, off-campus learning programs around the globe, a nationally recognized integrated academic support program, and commitment to stewarding the natural world all within a supportive community of students, educators, support staff, and parents.
Academic and Instructional Requirements
Ideal candidates should be:
Intellectually active in the humanities and social sciences and excited to share their passion for disciplinary content, analytical writing, research, critical thinking, and public speaking with the Proctor community.
Willing to teach and collaborate with colleagues in our 9th-grade (world history) team.
Committed to Proctor’s unique academic model that seeks to balance high academic standards with overt support systems and is willing to adapt instruction and support to meet differentiated learning needs.
Committed to the science and craft of teaching and willing to explore and implement research-based strategies for improving learning outcomes.
Candidates with undergraduate degrees in history or a related social science field and over five years of teaching experience are preferred.
Institutional and Extracurricular Requirements
In addition to teaching, this full-time position will include some of the following responsibilities associated with an independent boarding and day school position such as two seasons of coaching and some combination of advising a small group of students, leading or supporting a Wilderness Orientation experience, leading a project period group, afternoon program leader, and residential life duties.
