Flower City Communications supplies and installs wireless communications equipment and infrastructure to a variety of customers with complex and specialized needs. Flower City is a certified Channel Partner of Motorola Solutions and L3Harris professional and commercial radios. Flower City gets involved with the installation of such products in fleets of vehicles for municipal and commercial use. Flower City is also a certified dealer for Aruba Networks. 
Aside from the 2-way radio industry, Flower City sells and supports a variety of related equipment in the security solutions market. Such products include fever detection, wireless cellular communication (modems, boosters), security cameras and recently, Concealed Weapons Detection.

Basic Function 

The Network Technician is a person that can wear many hats and be flexible based upon the needs of the day. This person is technically inclined and able to organize him/herself for the many tasks that are required of him/her. This person can humbly serve customers professionally while confidently leading team members when the situation requires such.  
This person will be staging and setting up products for our clients and getting new equipment programmed properly based upon the clients' needs and requests. This person will be good at taking directions and able to work productively with a team. 

Approximately 60% of the time is spent doing support for clients and sales, 40% of time will be spent in the field with our sales representatives helping answer questions and determining the best solutions for our clients from an IT perspective. 

 

Responsibilities 

 

  1. Programming/setting up new radio equipment for customers’ frequencies. 

  1. Staging Repeaters/Portables/Control Stations/Base Stations/Demo Equipment to be taken by sales representatives and technicians, as well as rental customers. 

  1. Meeting with customers/sales staff to design a solution that suits their needs in their budget with a professional presence. 

  1. Explaining technical options and features to current/prospect customers while appearing confident and knowledgeable. 

  1. Manage ongoing fleets of radios and their programming requirements 

  1. Managing radio resources used by the sales and technical staff daily, having respect for their deadlines. 

  1. Leading small groups of employees for specific tasks when the need arises, making a best effort to be time efficient, and respecting their roles as well. 

  1. Assist with basic IT needs around the office, such as computer troubleshooting and setups. 

  1. Making basic videos on proper radio use for the purpose of customer training. 

  1. Troubleshooting customer radio issues when they arise 

  1. Learning about innovative technologies as they become available. 

  1. Assuring that laptops and computers are up to date and ready to work in the field on jobs- as well as being current with programming information and programming cables. 

  1. Troubleshoot and program in the field: camera systems and radios, in a professional manner when required. 

  1. To be able to support internal and external customers, in both sales and service. 

  1. Be prepared to listen to our customers' needs and provide options that are balanced with their needs and what is best for them. 

  1. Work closely with office staff and sales reps to make sure that proper materials are allotted for the job. 

  1. Complete Service Orders upon completion of job, documenting materials used, time spent and comments. 

  1. Manage inventory in company supplied vehicle and keep the vehicle in a clean, safe, and organized fashion. 

  1. Provide on-call service of customer equipment as required, demonstrating commitment to our company and teammates. 

  1. Be aware of sales opportunities when on a job site and relay that information back to the salesperson. 

  1. Support sales staff with IT knowledge and make suggestions to clients and prospects based on what would help solve their issues. 

  1. Be available to travel out of the area (overnights) when needed-rare. 

 

Skills 

  1. Ability to focus, and think of every scenario 

  1. Display knowledge of electronics test equipment 

  1. Must be able to lift 40 pounds without issue. 

  1. Ability to use Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. Also, comfortable learning the Flower City Communications Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. These are ways in which Flower City can present a professional end product and experience to our clients. 

 

Education/Training 

Completion of Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience 

Networking certifications are a plus 

An expectation that ongoing on-line and in-person continuous training will be taking place and a acquiring the needed Motorola Solutions and Aruba Networks training certificates (and keeping them current). 

 

Experience 

  1. Proof of a solid track record with a previous employer, having displayed honesty and integrity. 

  1. We are looking for somebody that is driven and motivated to excel 

  1. Programming technical experience in diagnosing, repairing, programming, and installing Motorola, Kenwood, or Harris equipment in the 2-way radio wireless and /or communication field is a plus. 

  1. Security clearance will be needed for a variety of clients. As a result, a clean background check and substance abuse test will be needed. 

  1. Valid driver's license is required with a clean driving history.
